Phase 1

Phase 1 involved the relocation of 30 Area Service Offices to our three Ambulance Control Centres (ACCs), based in Inverness and Cardonald, South Queensferry.  This has enabled patients (or a representative on behalf of a patient) to access the PTS through a direct patient booking line, allowing patients to have a conversation with a member of our Scheduled Care staff to assess their needs.  If they have a medical, capacity or mobility need for PTS, the most appropriate vehicle and Crew skill set will be planned to meet the patient’s needs.  For those patients who do not have a medical, capacity or mobility need for an ambulance the service aims to signpost those patients to appropriate alternative transport providers, where available.

Phase 1 also saw the introduction of Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs) to enable the transmission of real time information from the ACC to crews which allows for improved on the day control of vehicles and better communication between road crew and ACC staff.
