Our strategy

The Scottish Ambulance Service in Scotland has a statutory obligation to produce a comprehensive plan on how it involves patients and the public about the service they receive in their area and to monitor the implementation of this plan.

This plan or Patient Focus Public Involvement strategy should provide the framework for different levels of involvement and the procedures for communicating work on patient focus and public involvement throughout the organisation. The NHS Board Patient Focus Public Involvement strategy should also describe the public involvement processes in joint initiatives such as Managed Clinical Networks, Joint Future and services for children and elderly. The Service is committed to providing support and guidance to its staff on how patients and the public should be appropriately involved.

The Scottish Ambulance Service Patient Focused Public Involvement Strategy has been reviewed. This plan or Patient Focus Public Involvement strategy provides the framework for different levels of involvement and the procedures for communicating work on patient focus and public involvement throughout the Service.

National Standards for Community Engagement were agreed in 2005 after more than a year of consultation and testing in practice. They have been endorsed by many public, voluntary and community organisations in Scotland, including the NHS.

The standards cover a broad range of involvement issues and the Scottish Ambulance Service is committed to implementing them in their engagement with patients and public.

I had to use the Ambulance Service today and thought the operators were terrific. They were so kind and considerate. Thank you for having such wonderful staff.
