Celebrating 70 years of the NHS

Selection of images of the Ambulance Service

On 5 July 2018, the NHS will celebrate its 70th Anniversary

This is a great opportunity to look back and celebrate 70 years of achievement in Scotland and the difference the NHS has made to so many people's lives.

A history of the NHS in Scotland can be found on a special NHSScotland website, developed to celebrate this special anniversary.

History of the Scottish Ambulance Service

When the National Health Service was formed, St Andrew's and the Red Cross were contracted with providing the ambulance service for the NHS in Scotland.  In 1967, the British Red Cross Society withdrew and the service was named the St Andrew's Scottish Ambulance Service. In 1974, with the reorganisation of NHSScotland, the Scottish Ambulance Service came into existence.

We would love to hear about your memories of the Scottish Ambulance Service
