Mylo presents a cheque to the SCOTSTAR team

 Wednesday 12 October 2016

Four year old cardiology patient Mylo McLean from Elgin, presented a cheque for £2500 to members of SCOTSTAR (Scottish Specialist Transport and Retrieval) on Tuesday, 11 October at 10am at the SCOTSTAR and Air Ambulance Base in Glasgow yesterday.
SCOTSTAR is a division of the Scottish Ambulance Service that provides the safe and effective transport of some of Scotland’s most vulnerable patients including a paediatric team.

Mylo has been retrieved by the SCOTSTAR paediatric team on five occasions from Elgin and Aberdeen to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow for ongoing medical management. He has a medical condition called SVT (Supraventricular tachycardia) which occurs when there’s a problem with the heart’s electrical system which controls the heart’s rhythm and causes the heart to beat much faster than normal.

His parents, Lianne and Craig, started to fundraise for four different organisations, running a golf fundraiser at Moray Golf Course and a casino night in the Braenou Inn in Hopenan near Elgin; in recognition of the work that is done for Mylo.

Lianne McLean, Mylo’s mother said,
“When Mylo first became ill at only seven weeks old, we had no idea that the SCOTSTAR service would end up being such an important part of our lives. However, having had Mylo transported to Glasgow over the last four years with SCOTSTAR and having got to know the fantastic staff, we realise what an incredible service it is and how professional and dedicated the staff are.

“We first started fundraising, hoping to raise ?2000 but in actual fact have raised ?10,000, thanks to the amazing generosity of the people involved in our Moray Golf Club Course fundraiser and at the casino night at Braenou Inn in Hopenan.

“Mylo’s treatment will continue for the foreseeable future as he continues to attend hospital in Glasgow and so will our relationship with SCOTSTAR”.

Kate Burley, Head of SCOTSTAR said,
“The SCOTSTAR Paediatric Team is led by a Consultant and a team of nurses and nurse practitioners and we completed over 323 journeys for paediatric patients last year. Mylo is a great little boy who deals with this cardiac condition bravely and cheerfully.

“We will use this money towards a piece of equipment that the babies and children we retrieve will benefit from”.
