Heroes Award for Paramedics

 Monday 12 May 2014

A team of paramedics from Glasgow were presented with the Daily Record Emergency Services Heroes Award by the 3 year old whose life they saved.

Little Casey McLean presented the award to Julie Granger, June Maxwell and Andy Houston at a glittering awards ceremony at the weekend.

Casey was unconscious for over 25 minutes after her heart stopped suddenly while playing at home. A Paramedic Response Unit, crewed by Andy, arrived within 5 minutes, closely followed by June and Julie in an ambulance.

They delivered intensive treatment to Casey at home and on the way to Yorkhill hospital, where she was transferred into the care of doctors.

Casey’s grateful Mum, Audrey, nominated the paramedics for the award, saying:

“The paramedics were wonderful and once we got to Yorkhill hospital they made sure I was ok and kept on reassuring me.  Looking back, I don’t know how I would have coped if it wasn’t for their support.”
