SORT

As an integral part of the Services National Risk & Resilience Department we are specially recruited and trained to provide the Scottish Ambulance Service response to major incidents. These include incidents that may involve hazardous materials, or which present hazardous environments, that have occurred as a result of an accident or have been caused deliberately. As part of ongoing developments and partnership working with external agencies we are developing capabilities to support the Police and Fire & Rescue Service.

It should be noted that we are focused on bringing safe and effective care to the patient, regardless of their physical location by increasing available care into challenging and hazardous environments.

Each of our teams has a manager who has responsibility for the day to day organisation and management of resources. Each team is further configured into a number of smaller teams which is managed by a duty team leader. In addition to the team leader there are a number of roles within the Specialist Operations Response teams.

Special Operations Response Team Operatives

Special Operations Response Team Operatives are trained in basic emergency care including administration of oxygen therapy, use of defibrillators and other clinical equipment. They are trained in emergency driving techniques and provide logistical support within each team. In addition they are specialists in incident management including major incident response and casualty decontamination. They are also trained to use specialist Personnel Protective Equipment.
