Trainee (Relief) Ambulance Technician

BAND 4 - £19,502 - £22,458 pro rata per annum  (37.5 hours per week)

Applications are invited for individuals to join the Scottish Ambulance Service as Ambulance Technicians, based within various ambulance station locations right across Scotland.

NB: The term “Relief Ambulance Technician” refers to the shift pattern which you will be placed on and is the usual entry point for all Technicians to the Scottish Ambulance Service

The successful applicant for this post will be an employee of the Scottish Ambulance Service from their start date and will be enrolled on our bespoke clinical programme which will lead to a Certificate of Higher Education (Cert HE) in Ambulance Studies.  The programme is delivered over a 12 month period during which you will spend the first 11 weeks at our dedicated Scottish Ambulance Academy based within Glasgow Caledonian University.  After the 11 weeks, with our Education and Training team, you will progress to your allocated Ambulance Station to undertake your practice placement, where you will be mentored by other qualified Technicians and Paramedics as well as receiving ongoing support and learning from the education team.

The Ambulance Technician role is the first step to becoming an Ambulance Paramedic and once qualified as a Technician, you will be eligible to apply for further development as a fully qualified Paramedic and then possibly onto other roles across the Service, including specialist clinical roles and managerial roles.  Please note, that all candidates are required to hold a full C1 driving license no later than 6 weeks before the programme start date.  We therefore recommend that applicants obtain their C1 Provisional licence at the earliest opportunity.  Please refer to the DVLA website on how to obtain your C1 licence.
We do not currently have a confirmed date for the next intake; however, applications will be processed through the full selection process and placed into a holding pool until such time as a date is available. It is anticipated that the first intake will be scheduled for Spring 2016.

All candidates will be required to satisfy the following recruitment and entry requirements:

• A&E Fitness Test
• Competency Based Interview
• Occupational Health Screening/Medical
• Satisfactory application to the PVG (Disclosure) Scheme
• Minimum of 2 Highers/A Levels at grade C and 5 Standard Grades at level 3, to include English and a science subject or equivalent academic qualification ie: SVQ level 3, HNC.
