Modernisation ProgrammeThe Scottish Ambulance service has in recent years delivered its most comprehensive modernisation programme, moving to a system of response based upon the needs of the patient. The process of continued modernisation is one that affects every aspect of ambulance operations and the Service has established a number of project groups tasked with taking forward new developments that will benefit patients and deliver an efficient and effective service to the people of Scotland. These include: Reducing Hospital AdmissionsThis group is developing new ways of working to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions for conditions that can be safely and effectively treated at home. Developing Enhanced SkillsThis group focuses on developing training programmes that will bring new skills to ambulance crews, allowing them to deliver a broader range of care to patients. Rural HealthThe aim of this group is to examine the challenges of delivering healthcare in remote and rural communities and explore new ways of working that are responsive to community need sand will improve resilience. Patient Transport ServiceA modern fit for purpose service that properly meets the needs of patients travelling to and from out patient clinics is essential. The PTS service continuously reviews its operations and is making improvements with new vehicle designs and new booking systems. IT StrategyThe service depends on the most modern technology solutions in order to deliver fast and response and effective treatment. By the end of 2007 the service will operate the latest in cab technology and replace its radio system with the new digital Airwave standard.
