| Along with the opening of Edinburgh EMDC we also introduced the:
Advance Medical Priority Dispatch System
AMPDS is a software system
which links with the existing Command & Control
system and allows the qualified user (call taker) to lead the 999
caller through question sets to establish the "chief complaint"
of the patient and the priority that should be given to the call.
Also, once the chief complaint has been determined, pre arrival
instructions including telephone CPR can be given to assist the
caller until the Ambulance crew arrive.
The priorites are :
- RED - 8 minute response
- AMBER - 14 minute response in Metropolitan areas
19
minute response in Semi–Rural areas
21 minute response
in Rural areas
- GREEN - This is known as a cold response we aim to respond
within 1 hour however this may take longer.
Another system that is crucial to the EMDC is the:
Command Control System
The CCS is a data base which holds all the ongoing incidents
within the EMDC operational area. There are two sections where
the incidents are held: firstly the waiting section, where incidents
that are to be allocated to an Ambulance are held and secondly:
the active section where incidents that have been allocated to
a resource are held.
When each case is completed it is saved into the historical records
file. The incidents can then be recovered should there be any enquiries
regarding a case in the future.
Advanced Vehicle Location System
The
AVLS allows the Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMD’s)
to observe a vehicle’s movement in real time. The system
is also used in conjunction with the CCS to determine the closest
available vehicle to an incident.
