Daughter takes over dad’s Paramedic shift at Dumfries Station after his retirement

The daughter of a paramedic who retired after 40 years of service has stepped straight into his former shift.

John West, of Dumfries Ambulance Station, retired on 16 August after four decades of service. He celebrated his retirement alongside his daughter, Morgyn West, also a paramedic, and Head of Service for the region Michael Harmjanz.

Morgyn will now take over her father's former shift position, working alongside technician Paul McGill, who had been John's shift partner for several years, ensuring a seamless transition.

Head of Service Michael Harmjanz said: “John was a truly valued member of staff and will be sorely missed by everyone at the station.

"It’s terrific that the family legacy will continue, with Morgyn taking over his shift and working alongside his long-time shift partner. We wish John all the very best in his well-deserved retirement.”
