Coatbridge Paramedic Wins Third World Catch Wrestling Championship
A Coatbridge paramedic has once again proven unbeatable on the world stage, winning the World Championships in Catch Wrestling for the third time.
Finn Marshall, who has worked with the Scottish Ambulance Service for 12 years, recently secured victory in the Under 74kg category, beating top competitors from England, Italy, and Moldova.
Catch Wrestling, which originated in Wigan, Lancashire, is a wrestling style where wrestlers aim to win by pinning or submitting their opponent. It was popularised by Wigan native Billy Riley, and the World Championships are held in Wigan each year.
“Winning the World Championships for a third time was fantastic,” said Finn. “I’m very happy that I get to keep the Championship Belt and bring it home to my two boys”
Finn credits the support of managers and colleagues at the Scottish Ambulance Service for helping him compete at the highest level. He said: “I’ve been able to take annual leave to attend competitions. I flew out to California last year, so I had to bring in my Championship Belt to show my managers and my crewmate.”
Finn started wrestling as a young child and earned a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu as an adult. Prior to getting into Catch Wrestling, Finn has represented Scotland and Great Britain as a wrestler.
“I was a very hyperactive child, and wrestling was a great outlet for me. Wrestling has been a massive part of my life,” Finn explained.
“I got into Catch Wrestling about four years ago. As well as the physical impact, it has been really good for my mental health.”
