The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) is welcoming 130 replacement vehicles to its fleet, including 70 new emergency ambulances and 60 new patient transport vehicles.

The investment follows the delivery of 60 new ambulances since April, bringing the total number of new vehicles to 190.

Designed to maintain service delivery, improve reliability, reduce maintenance costs and support the delivery of high-quality patient care, the 130 new vehicles are part of a Scottish Government-backed £133 million fleet replacement programme which will see more than 1,000 vehicles replaced over a five-year period.

Michael Dickson, Chief Executive of the Scottish Ambulance Service, said: "People are at the heart of the Scottish Ambulance Service and they rely on modern, dependable vehicles to deliver care every day. This significant investment demonstrates our commitment to maintaining a high-quality fleet for communities across Scotland.

"The arrival of our new ambulances and patient transport vehicles will help ensure our staff have the equipment they need to deliver the best possible care while providing greater reliability and resilience across our services.”

Health Secretary Angela Constance said: “I am pleased to see these new vehicles arriving at the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“The fleet replacement programme highlights this Government’s on-going commitment to investing in our health service and will deliver more than 1,000 new and improved vehicles over five years, ensuring ambulance crews have the modern, reliable equipment they need to continue to provide the highest quality of care to communities across Scotland.”
