Could I please ask about the pay scales of your Driving Instructors (DI)? Ideally, the salary pathway all the way from your developing instructors to your fully qualified instructors and any Line Managers within the department. For example, your Developing Instructors may start at the bottom of Band 6, then move up to the bottom of Band 7 when qualified. Also, do you award any Recruitment and Retention premiums for DIs, and what are they? I am looking to understand how different DIs are paid in different Trusts and so would like to know the full range of this in your Trust.

Response

The Scottish Ambulance Service pay their Driver Training Officers Band 6.

There are some dual qualified Clinical Training Officers who are qualified DERADI (Diploma in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving Instruction) instructors.  All dual qualified CTO’s are Band 7, even during their training period; no staff member is on a training salary whilst undertaking their DERADI qualifications.

The Scottish Ambulance Service do not offer recruitment or retention payments.  Currently the Scottish Ambulance Service do not recruit out with the staff within the Education and Personal Development Department
