Are Scottish Ambulance Service staff permitted to use taxpayer funded Scottish ambulance vehicles on their days off? Are Scottish Ambulance Service staff permitted to use taxpayer funded Scottish ambulance vehicles on their days off?
Yes, staff have permission to use the Scottish Ambulance Service pool (spare) vehicles for use in supporting a variety of community events, including school visits, local community fun days and Pride events. In order to ensure appropriate cover is not compromised, staff can volunteer to attend these events in their own time.If Scottish Ambulance Service staff are permitted to use taxpayer funded ambulance vehicles on their days off, for personal use, who gave permission?
The Scottish Ambulance Service Chief Executive encourages staff to attend community events where possible.How many times in 2025 have Scottish Ambulance staff used taxpayer funded ambulance vehicles for personal purposes?
Community events are organised locally; therefore we do not have a dataset to report on the number of times spare vehicles have been used to attend community events.It is important to note that the community events are different from ‘personal use’. Staff are not permitted to use Scottish Ambulance Service pool (spare) vehicles for personal use or personal errands. There have been no recorded cases where a staff has used a Service vehicle for ‘personal errands’.
If a Scottish Ambulance Service employee drives a Scottish Ambulance vehicle when he/she is off duty, who is covering the insurance?
Every vehicle in the Scottish Ambulance Service is appropriately insured for any community event, this is supplied by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
