Response Date

Information Requested
  1. Does the Scottish Ambulance Service hold any documents, plans, or communications relating to the opening of new applications for Ambulance Technician roles in 2025 or beyond?
  2. Does the Scottish Ambulance Service hold any information, reports, or plans about a potential career pathway for Ambulance Care Assistants to progress to Ambulance Technician roles?
Response

1. There are currently no scheduled Technician recruitment drives.  Technician recruitment for the Scottish Ambulance Service is dependent on where and when vacancies arise.  These recruitment plans are scheduled using the predictions of staff turnovers (retirements, secondments ending etc).

2.  The Scottish Ambulance Service does not hold any documents on a potential career pathway from Ambulance Care Assistant progressing to Ambulance Technicians.  There is information available online about becoming an Ambulance Technician Ambulance technician | NHSScotland Careers

Anyone who meets the qualifying criteria to become an Ambulance Technician can apply, including current Ambulance Care Assistants and, if successful, can follow the process in becoming a Technician.  However, there is no direct pathway that allows Ambulance Care Assistants to progress to an Ambulance Technician.
