Response

I am seeking the SAS Guidelines in place when the ambulance crew are called by 999 to attend a patient at home.

Our core clinical guidance is the Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Committee (JRCALC) Clinical Practice Guidelines. These are systematically developed UK clinical practice guidelines which are based on the current best evidence. We also supplement some of this guidance with bespoke SAS guidance, which reflects the local healthcare system. There are over 110 core JRCALC guidelines relating to the wide range of clinical presentations we attend. Our clinicians access these guidelines via the JRCALC Plus App. It is not possible to provide these guidelines due to the format and licencing restrictions. However, the core guidance is available to buy, directly from the publishers, in either paper or electronic format (The Guidelines – JRCALC). This core guidance, available to buy, does not contain the SAS supplementary guidance.

The Guidelines which are then followed when making a decision not to convey a patient directly to hospital.

The service has produced supplementary guidance in the form of the Clinical Decision Making Framework. This framework has been developed to assist ambulance clinicians reach safe and effective shared decisions with patients as appropriate.
