Can you tell me how many paramedics that have joined the Scottish Ambulance Service in the North Region since 2023 are (a) still employed and (b) have been signed off work due to stress. If they are signed off for another reason, please can you specify.
- Response
From the number of Paramedics employed within the North Region since 2023, 384 remain employed within the service.
The wellbeing of our hardworking staff is a key priority for the Service, and we have put additional measures in place and increased support over the last year in line with our Health and Wellbeing Strategy. We take the mental health of our staff very seriously, which is why we have developed a robust programme to support them. Managers work closely with staff to encourage them to report any concerns about their welfare and we provide assistance and funding for staff seeking professional counselling services and occupational health services. The Scottish Ambulance service has and continuously reviews a varied range of support tools aimed at staff in relation to mental health related illnesses
Please see the attached sheet detailing the sickness counts and reasons for the 384 paramedics considered within scope of the request.
Important Information to Consider
- Includes all Paramedics employed in the North Region since 2023.
- The Scottish Ambulance Service cannot report if absences with anxiety, stress or depression are work-related or of a personal nature.
- Paramedics may appear under multiple sickness reasons if they had more than one type of absence.
- All durations of sickness are counted — from short-term (a few hours) to long-term absences
For the given data, you will see that some of the figures are shown as, five or less than five, please note that this figure has been suppressed because the statistical value is less than five. The Scottish Ambulance service has a duty, under the Data Protection Act to avoid directly or indirectly revealing any personal details. It is therefore widely understood that provision of statistics on small numbers, five or less are statistically suppressed upon disclosure.
