Information Requested

I was wondering if you held any data on Ambulance Stacking outside NHS Grampian.  I experienced this in 2021, raised concerns about it, and wonder if things have improved.  Or would I speak to NHS Grampian about this?

I’d be looking at 2020-present and I suppose to identify this I could use one of the following measurements…

1. The average wait time for an ambulance to drop off a patient

2. The maximum number of ambulances in the queue at any one time

3. The total number of hours ambulances spend waiting

Response

The Scottish Ambulance Service holds data on turnaround times of Scottish Ambulance Service vehicles at hospitals within NHS Grampian.

Please see the attached sheet detailing the total number of conveyances, total turnaround times in minutes, average turnround times, median1 turnaround time and 90th percentile2 turnaround time.

Important Information to Consider

The Service does record turnaround times, which is from when an ambulance arrives at hospital to the point of departure. These turnaround times are affected by a wide range of factors, including ambulance staff cleaning vehicles following patient transportation, supporting the ongoing care of the patient and on occasions providing statements to the police.

These turnaround times ARE NOT comparable to the handover times of other UK Ambulance Trusts.

Our local management teams are working closely with Health Boards to ensure that ambulances are released as quickly as possible
