It would be great to know why Paramedics pay to learn to drive the ambulance themselves? And, why does the NHS
not provide/pay for this?
It would be great to know the reasoning behind this

Response

The Scottish Ambulance Service considers the C1 licence category as an entry requirement for any role
where the requirement to drive ambulance vehicles. The Service does provide driver training and an where
appropriate an emergency response driving qualification.
By requiring the C1 qualification on entry, the Service ensures that applicants are fully licensed and ready
to commence driver training/emergency response driver training from the start of their employment, which
reduces operational delays and training costs.
