I would like to request the following information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
- How many additional (a) paramedics and (b) ambulance care assistants have been recruited to support the Scottish Ambulance Service in winter 2025-25, and where they will be based, broken down by (i) hospital, (ii) NHS board and (iii) Scottish Ambulance Service region.
- How has (a) the number and (b) geographical placement of additional Scottish Ambulance Service staff for winter 2025-26 been determined.

How many additional (a) paramedics and (b) ambulance care assistants have been recruited to support the Scottish Ambulance Service in winter 2025-25, and where they will be based, broken down by (i) hospital, (ii) NHS board and (iii) Scottish Ambulance Service region.
We have applied section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act 2002 to your request. We do not hold a record of staff recruited specifically as “additional winter support”; recent recruitment has been for permanent contracts only.
We also deploy staff by SAS stations and regions, not by hospital, so we do not hold a hospital‑level breakdown.
How has (a) the number and (b) geographical placement of additional Scottish Ambulance Service staff for winter 2025-26 been determined.
As we do not recruit specifically winter support, this question is non-applicable. Any locations where permanent contracts offered are based on operational needs and vacancies.
