Freedom of Information Request — ScotSTAR
I would like to request the following information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
Please provide details of how many neonatal transfers of babies requiring neonatal intensive care have been undertaken by ScotSTAR to:
- Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (Glasgow)
- Edinburgh Royal Infirmary
- Aberdeen Maternity Unit
from each of the other neonatal units in Scotland, from 1 January 2023 to the present date, broken down by:
- The timeframe after birth in which the transfer occurred, with specific reference to transfers that took place within the first 72 hours of life.
- The baby's gestational age at birth.
- C) The reason for the transfer.
- d) The name of the unit the baby was transferred from.

Please see the attached sheet detailing the total number of neonatal transfers undertaken by ScotSTAR to each of the hospitals requested broken down by the receiving hospital from 1st January 2023 – 19th December 2025
The attached sheet also contains the timeframe after birth for which the transfer occurred.
For the given data, you will see that some of the figures are shown as, five or less than five, please note that this figure has been suppressed because the statistical value is less than five. The Scottish Ambulance service has a duty, under the Data Protection Act to avoid directly or indirectly revealing any personal details. It is therefore widely understood that provision of statistics on small numbers, five or less are statistically suppressed upon disclosure.
