- Information Requested
I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information from the clinical operations department for my studies at University. Please may you provide me with:
- For a period covering 2024-2025 (or the most recent complete year set of data):
- a) How many patients does your service attend (face to face consultations/see and treat) whichare located incarehomes/nursing homes/residential facilities etc – this is typically captured when recording a patient’s demographics.
- b) Of these identified patients, how many have a recorded final working impression/end code of fracture/broken bone(s).
- c) Finally, of these furtheridentifiedpatients, how many are transported by hospital by your service (not to include self-transport/family/taxi).
- Response
Under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), the Scottish Ambulance Service can provide recorded information that it holds. We are not required to create new information or undertake retrospective analysis where the data was not routinely recorded.
The ability for ambulance crews to explicitly record whether an incident location is a care home or nursing home is a recent inclusion following the implementation of the new clinical system, TerraPACE 3. The previous system, TerraPACE 2, did not have functionality to reliably capture this data item.
As a result, we are only able to provide information for part of the period requested. The first incidents where “Living Arrangement = Care/Nursing Home” are recorded within TerraPACE 3 date from 8 October 2025. Information prior to this date cannot be accurately extracted from the data warehouse, as the required data field was not available within TerraPACE 2. It is for this reason we have applied section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act 2002, as information not held for the time period 01/01/2024 - 08/10/2025.
You should therefore note that the figures provided below do not represent a complete picture of attendances to care or nursing homes across the full 2024–2025 period, as incidents attended under TerraPACE 2 cannot be reliably identified.
