Information Requested

Alliance Private Ambulance have started doing an NQP programme - will this be recognised with SAS if then try to join the service after? Or will this not be the case as it’s very different to sas NQP as no emergency response as such but work through A and E in the hospitals

Response

Under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) can only provide information that is held at the time of the request and is not required to create new information, provide opinions, or speculate on hypothetical recruitment outcomes.

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) does not hold any recorded policy, guidance, or agreement relating to the recognition or acceptance of Newly Qualified Paramedic (NQP) programmes delivered by external private ambulance providers, including Alliance Private Ambulance, as an equivalent to the SAS NQP programme.

Recruitment into SAS paramedic roles, including entry to the NQP programme, is undertaken through the standard recruitment process, and applicants must meet the criteria set out in the relevant recruitment materials. Any consideration of prior experience gained elsewhere would form part of an individual recruitment assessment; however, SAS does not hold recorded information confirming that completion of an external (non NHS Ambulance Service) NQP programme would be recognised as equivalent to the full range of competencies that the role within SAS would require.
