I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Please could you provide the following information in relation to your authority’s domestic waste services:
1. The name of the current contractor(s) responsible for:
o Domestic (residual) waste collection
o Recycling collection
o Food waste collection
2. The contract start date and original contract end date for each of the above services.
3. Details of any extension options available within each contract (including the length of each extension).
4. Confirmation of whether any extensions have been exercised, and if so, the revised contract end date.
5. If applicable, confirmation of any planned procurement timetable for replacement contracts.

Q1 - The Scottish Ambulance Service currently uses the following contractor:
- Specialist Waste Recycling Ltd, also known as SWR Newstar (the same organisation)
- The scope of services provided is as follows:
- Domestic (residual) waste collection: Specialist Waste Recycling Ltd / SWR Newstar. These services relate to waste generated at operational sites and are managed through commercial waste arrangements rather than local authority domestic household collections.
- Recycling collection: Specialist Waste Recycling Ltd / SWR Newstar.
- Food waste collection: No food waste uplifts are undertaken at contracted sites.
Q2 - The contract commenced on 1 April 2024 and has an original end date of 31 March 2029.
Q3 - The contract includes an optional extension of up to 12 months.
Q4 - No extension has been exercised at this time. A decision on whether the optional extension will be activated will be made nearer the end of the contract term.
Q5 - There is no planned procurement timetable at present, as the current contract remains in force.
