- Information Requested
The purpose of this request is to gather data on ambulance callouts to aesthetic clinics. *Required information* Specifically, I am seeking anonymised data on the following from January 2020 to March 2026:
- Where held in a searchable electronic format, please provide the number of ambulance callouts between 1 January 2020 and 31 March 2026 to premises where the recorded incident location namecontainsthe following keywords: “beauty”, “aesthetic”, “aesthetics” or “cosmetics”
- For each callout, please provide the date of the incident and the primary recorded reason for the callout (e.g. loss of consciousness, chest pain, immediate threat to life, major trauma, etc.).
- Response
Under section 17(1) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) gives notice that it does not hold the information you have requested. This is because FOISA provides a right of access to recorded information that we hold at the time of the request, but it does not require a public authority to create new information in order to answer a request
In this case, while SAS holds records of individual incidents, we do not hold a recorded report or dataset that can reliably identify incidents by searching the incident location name for keywords such as “beauty”, “aesthetic(s)” or “cosmetics”, and then provide a list of the date of each incident and the primary reason for the callout
To produce the information requested, SAS would need to compile and check incidents to determine which ones genuinely relate to the type of premises you describe (for example, where the keyword appears in unrelated location text, where spelling varies, or where an incident occurs outside a premises and is not attributed to a clinic). This would require judgement and additional work to create a new dataset, rather than retrieving information we already hold in the form requested. FOISA does not require us to do this.
