Information Requested

I'm looking to find out more about any occasions when single crewed ambulances were operating in Inverclyde.

Please provide the following information on singlecrewed ambulance shifts relating to the Inverclyde area:

  1. For each calendar year 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, and for 2026 to the most recent date available, please state:
  • The number of singlecrewed ambulance shifts starting from Greenock Ambulance Station.
  1. For the same years and period, please also state:
  • The total number of ambulance shifts (of any crew size) starting from Greenock Ambulance Station, so that the proportion of singlecrewed shifts can be calculated.

If you do not hold figures specifically by station but do hold them for another clearly defined operational area covering Inverclyde (such as post code), please provide the data for that area instead and specify the area used.

Response

Under FOISA, public authorities are required to provide recorded information that is held at the time of the request and are not required to create new information or undertake additional analysis to answer a request.  The Scottish Ambulance Service does not hold this information at NHS Board, Division, or lower levels and does not routinely report at those levels.

Please see the attached sheet that provides the data requested by calendar year, broken down by Scottish Ambulance Service regions and Scotland as a whole, showing the number of single‑crewed shifts, total number of shifts, and the percentage of shifts that were single‑crewed. The data covers the period 01 January 2022 to 28 February 2026.

Please note that the data relates to single‑crewed shifts and not the number of ambulances. The Scottish Ambulance Service does not routinely roster staff to work alone in a double‑crewed vehicle. Every effort is made to double‑crew shifts; however, there are occasions where shifts may be single‑crewed due to short‑notice or unplanned staff absence where alternative staffing cannot be arranged. In such situations, staff are tasked appropriately and supported as required.
