Can you provide information on the use of Specialist & Advanced Paramedics (both critical care and urgent or primary care) in SAS.
- How many of each type are employed by the Trust?
- What stations do each type operate out of and what areas do they cover?
- How many of each type are available at any given time?
- Do they provide a 24hr service?- Response
The Scottish Ambulance Service currently has in their employment 126 Advanced Paramedics of all types.
The Scottish Ambulance Service does not hold recorded information showing the number of Advanced Practitioners available on shift at any given time. Operational availability varies depending on factors such as shift patterns, training commitments, abstraction to other duties and service demand.
SAS does, however, confirm that Advanced Practitioners in Urgent and Primary Care operate across a range of service models. This includes practitioners working in frontline response roles, supporting primary care pathways, and providing remote clinical consultation via telephone or video.
These services operate on a 24‑hour basis, 365 days per year, although coverage and deployment arrangements may vary by location and service need.
