Please could you provide the following details regarding the use of slide sheets within your organisation: 
 
1. The types/brands of slide sheets currently in use across your Trust (e.g. disposable, reusable, tubular, bariatric, etc.), including product names where available. 
 
2. The names of the suppliers/manufacturers you currently procure slide sheets from. 
 
3. The total quantity of slide sheets purchased in the last 12 months, broken down by product type if possible. 
 
4. The total spend on slide sheets in the last 12 months. 
 
5. Details of any current contracts or frameworks used for the procurement of slide sheets, including: 
- Framework provider (e.g. NHS Supply Chain or other) 
- Contract start and end dates 
 
6. Whether your Trust has made any recent changes (in the last 24 months) to slide sheet suppliers or products, and if so, which suppliers/products were replaced and which were introduced. 
 
7. The department responsible for procurement of moving & handling consumables (e.g. procurement team, tissue viability, moving & handling advisors). 

Response

Q1 - The Service utilises a range of slide sheet products to support patient handling, including: 

  • MIP patient-specific tubular slide sheets (various sizes) 
  • GBUK disposable tubular slide sheets 
  • Sologlide flat and universal sheets (GBUK Healthcare) 
  • Single-use glide sheets 
  • W Munro tubular and multiglide slide sheets 
  • Ferno Scottish Ambulance Service specified slide sheets 

 

Q2 - The Scottish Ambulance Service currently procures slide sheets from: 

  • MIP UK Limited 
  • GBUK Healthcare 
  • W Munro 
  • Ferno 

 

Q3 - Approximately 370 slide sheets were purchased in the last 12 months, with the following breakdown: 

  • Reusable tubular / multiglide slide sheets: 220 
  • Patient-specific tubular slide sheets: 80 
  • Disposable / single-use slide sheets (including roll formats): 50 
  • Specialist / Scottish Ambulance Service specified: 70 

 

Q4 - Total expenditure on slide sheets in the last 12 months was approximately £10,570.00. 

 

Q5 - Slide sheets are primarily procured via national and local procurement arrangements. 

  • Framework provider: NHS National Services Scotland (National Procurement) 
  • Framework reference: NP592/21 – Patient Lifting Equipment 
  • Contract start date: 1 July 2021 
  • Contract end date: 1 July 2026 

In some cases, purchasing may also be undertaken through local arrangements where appropriate. 

 

Q6 - The Scottish Ambulance Service has not made any changes to slide sheet suppliers or products within the last 24 months. 

 

Q7 - The Health and Safety Department provides professional guidance on the selection and use of moving and handling consumables. 

Operational teams and departments typically undertake purchasing, subject to appropriate approval and procurement processes. 

 

Please note when interpreting this data - the figures provided (particularly quantity and spend) are approximate and based on information available from procurement systems and supporting records. The Service does not maintain a single centralised dataset solely for slide sheet usage, and therefore some collation and estimation has been required.
