I would like to request the following information: A month-by-month breakdown of the number of ambulance call outs referencing both cardiac arrests and gyms/leisure centres for the following years: 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020. For clarity, I am not requesting any personal data. If any part of this request exceeds the cost limit or is exempt, please advise how I can refine my request in order to bring it within scope.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has applied section 17(1) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, as the information requested is not held.
While the Scottish Ambulance Service records information relating to cardiac arrest incidents, we do not categorise incident locations by location type (for example, gym or leisure centre). As a result, we do not hold a recorded dataset that would identify cardiac arrests occurring at gyms or leisure centres, nor one that would allow a month-by-month breakdown to be produced.
To answer your request, the Service would need to manually review individual incident records over the requested period and apply judgement to determine whether each incident occurred at a gym or leisure centre. This would require the creation of new information through analysis of records rather than the provision of information already held. FOISA does not require public authorities to create new information in order to respond to a request.
