Please could you tell me in the years 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26 (please give separate totals for each financial year):
1) The number of accidents involving electric scooters attended by your ambulance service
2) Of the number of accidents attended and identified in answer (1), in how many was the driver of the electric scooter:
- a) Treated only at the scene for injuries
- b) Taken to A&E to treat their injuries
3) Of the number accidents attended and identified in answer (1), in how many was at least one pedestrian involved in the accident:
- a) Treated only at the scene for injuries
- b) Taken to A&E to treat their injuries

The Scottish Ambulance Service records and responds to incidents primarily on the basis of the patient's
presenting condition and categorises incidents by chief complaint. We do not record or categorise
incidents by cause of injury: E-Scooters.
The Service does not hold a searchable category, code or report that would identify incidents involving
riders or pedestrians involved in e-scooters collisions.
In order to provide the information requested, the Service would be required to manually review individual
incident records and associated free-text clinical notes over the relevant period to determine whether a
electric-scooters may have been involved. This would require the application of professional judgement to
interpret the circumstances recorded within each case and would effectively result in the creation of new
information rather than the retrieval of recorded information already held.
As the Scottish Ambulance Service does not hold the requested information in a recorded and retrievable
form, this information is exempt under section 17(1) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, as information not held.
