Please could you provide the following information for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area for the most recent complete calendar month:

  1. The total number of ambulance call-outs where the presenting complaint or dispatch categorisation was a possible or suspected stroke.
  2. Of those call-outs, how many had an ambulance response time of more than 30 minutes from the time the call was received/incident was dispatched to the arrival of the first ambulance at the scene.
  3. If available, please provide a breakdown of the response times into: * 30–45 minutes * 45–60 minutes * More than 60 minutes.
  4. If possible, please also provide the corresponding figures for the previous 12 months, so that the most recent month’s figure can be put into context.
Response

The information provided relates to:

  • Emergency calls only.
  • Attended incidents only.
  • Incidents recorded under the chief complaint group “Stroke/CVA”.
  • Incidents within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board area.
  • The period 1 August 2025 to 31 August 2026.

Please note caution when interpreting this data

These figures relate to attended emergency incidents where the chief complaint was recorded as Stroke/CVA. They do not represent the number of patients who were subsequently confirmed as having experienced a stroke. In some cases, the presenting symptoms may not initially indicate a stroke and the incident may only be categorised as Stroke/CVA following further clinical assessment.

Where a response is delayed, clinical advisors and ambulance control staff may maintain ongoing contact with the patient or caller, reassess the patient's condition, provide clinical advice and, where appropriate, amend the incident priority to ensure the response remains aligned to clinical need.

The data is grouped by the call colour recorded for the incident. The figures include Amber and Yellow incidents.

The "30 minutes or more" figure in Tab 1 represents all incidents where the response time exceeded 30 minutes. It is a combined total of the 30-45 minutes, 45-60 minutes, and 60 minutes or more categories, which are shown separately in Tab 2.

Some figures of fewer than five have been suppressed and displayed as “<5”. Where this has occurred, secondary suppression has also been applied to the next lowest figure in the same month to reduce the risk of individuals being identified or the suppressed value being calculated from the remaining figures.

Please see the attached sheet detailing the information requested above.
