Information Requested

I am looking for information on the percentage of male to females passing the existing fitness test from 2024 to date, in particular if possible the holding of the 2 x 15kg weights for 3 minutes and age ranges of the same test

Response

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been unable to identify records containing the requested information for the 2024 and 2025 NQP recruitment exercises. In terms of Section 17(1) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, we therefore confirm that the requested information for these years is not held.

For the 2026 fitness assessments, the recorded outcomes are:

Passed

Failed

Total

Pass rate

Failure rate

Female

215

84

299

72%

28%

Important information to consider when interpreting this information

The sex/gender information used for this breakdown was taken from information provided through the candidates' application records and was not separately collected or declared as part of the fitness test itself.

Please note that the numbers of male and female candidates undertaking the assessment were not equal. A greater number of female candidates undertook the fitness test. The percentage pass and failure rates have therefore been calculated separately for each group to allow comparison, while the corresponding numbers are also provided for context.

The Scottish Ambulance Service does not hold age-related information for fitness testing. Pass/fail results are collated and reported for the fitness test as a whole and not for individual sections of the test. Providing the breakdown requested at section 3 would therefore require SAS to create new information or a new dataset which is not currently held. FOISA provides a right of access to recorded information held by a public authority but does not require an authority to create new information in order to respond to a request.  It is for this reason we have applied section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act 2002, as information not held.
