You don’t need to be medically trained, and you should never hesitate to use one in an emergency. AEDs are designed to be safe and accessible for everyone.
How AEDs Work
An AED analyses the electrical activity of the heart and delivers a shock if it detects a life-threatening abnormal rhythm. These devices are designed to be safe and effective:
- They will only administer a shock if one is needed, meaning it is extremely unlikely to cause harm.
- AEDs are equipped with clear voice prompts and visual instructions to support users during an emergency.
