I would like to add the following clarification to FOI 26-319. Could you also please update the figures to include the most recent data available for 2026 to date?
For neonatal transfers from Scotland to England, please provide the number of transfers and reason for each transfer, distinguishing between:
* Capacity: no appropriate neonatal cot available in Scotland;
* Surgical/clinical need: specialist surgery or treatment unavailable in Scotland;
* Both: the baby required specialist surgery/treatment and there was also no appropriate cot available in Scotland;
* Other: please specify. Where possible, please provide this by year and include the Scottish unit the baby was transferred from and the English unit they were transferred to.
I am particularly interested in identifying transfers where the baby was transferred to England because there was no appropriate neonatal cot available in Scotland, including cases where the baby also required surgery or specialist treatment.

There have been no new neonatal transfers to England since the publication of FOI 26-319 - FOI 26-319 Neonatal Transfers to England
The 11 neonatal transfers to England detailed in FOI 26-319 were all for specialist surgical/clinical need; none of these transfers had a cot capacity reason.
